Gina is Director of Underwriting for Nephila Syndicate Management Limited and Active Underwriter for Syndicate 2357. Gina was previously Director of Underwriting and Interim Active Underwriter at ERS, a Lloyd’s specialist motor syndicate and managing agency and prior to that spent 11 years in various roles at Chaucer including Practice Head of their UK insurance business and prior to that she was Risk Officer at Chaucer for many years. Gina is a Chartered Accountant and has an Executive MBA from SAID Business School, The University of Oxford.
Hervé Castella is responsible for PartnerRe’s third-party capital activities and the purchase of catastrophe retrocession. Mr. Castella joined PartnerRe in 1999 as Senior Underwriter in Financial Guarantee, and was appointed head of Catastrophe Research in 2004. More recently, Mr. Castella was Group Catastrophe Portfolio Manager responsible for the management of PartnerRe’s catastrophe exposure
Mr. Castella holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Geneva and is a CFA Charterholder
Katherine is a Partner in the Corporate practice and is head of the firm’s Global Insurance Sector Group. Since 1988 she has specialized in providing regulatory, M&A, corporate and product development advice to life and non-life insurers, reinsurers asset managers and other financial institutions. Katherine is rated a ᾽star individual᾽ in Chambers UK and is listed in Chambers 100 (in which she is the only insurance sector representative).
She has advised on a broad range of risk transfer and capital optimisation mechanisms ranging from traditional reinsurance and regulatory capital raising through to a variety of innovative alternative risk transfer and insurance securitisation structures. She advises the London Market task force in UK ILS matters and has an excellent relationship with the PRA, FCA and UK Treasury. Katherine has advised on almost all of the successful UK ILS issuances using the new UK regulations with clients including Neon, Scor, Pool Re and Brit.
Subhasis Das is currently a Senior Portfolio Manager within the Strategic Investments asset class at the State Board of Administration of Florida (SBA). Subhasis’ primary responsibilities are researching, sourcing and oversight for a variety of hedge fund and private credit strategies. Prior to his current role, he spent ten years as the Director of Research in the Global Equity asset class where his responsibilities included analysis of global equity portfolios, researching portfolio strategies, oversight of external active managers and asset class risk management. Subhasis worked as a business economist for government agencies and a bank before his time at the SBA. Subhasis’ educational background consists of a PhD degree in economics, a MBA and a MS in computer science.
Chris is Brit’s Group Head of ILS and Capital Management. Chris joined Brit in 2008 and has worked in various roles spanning investment strategy, ALM, reinsurance, actuarial, risk management and finance. Chris helped develop BRIT’s third party capital platform and led the launch of Sussex Capital in 2017 and established Sussex Capital UK in 2018. Prior to joining BRIT, he worked as an actuary at Guy Carpenter, RSA and JLT.
John P. Doucette is President and CEO of the Reinsurance Division. For the previous five years he held the title of Chief Underwriting Officer of Everest Re Group. Prior to this, he was head of Enterprise Risk Management for the Group, having joined the Company in 2008 as Executive Vice President.
Prior to Everest, Mr. Doucette worked at Max Re Capital Ltd. from 2000 to 2008, as President and Chief Underwriting Officer of the P&C Reinsurance division, where he was responsible for new products and geographic expansion. Prior to that, he was an Associate Director at Swiss Re New Markets between 1997 and 2000, a division of Swiss Reinsurance Company, where he held various pricing, structuring and underwriting roles in connection with alternative risk transfer and structured products. He worked at Tillinghast as a consultant from 1989 to 1997.
Mr. Doucette graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics and Biometry from Cornell University.
Dominik has more than ten years of reinsurance and investment banking experience with a particular focus on alternative capital in the insurance industry. His transaction experience encompasses traditional fixed income and private equity, catastrophe bonds, reinsurance sidecars, contingent capital and other structured finance transactions in both life and non-life insurance. In his most recent role, he served as Vice President at Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. with global coverage responsibilities in the insurance and reinsurance sector. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, he served as Director at UBS Securities LLC, also focused on the insurance industry. Dominik started his career at Munich Re, working in the company’s alternative capital team in Munich and the US.
He holds a Master of Sciences degree in Financial Economics, majoring in finance, economics and econometrics from Maastricht University in The Netherlands.
Gilbert is Head of Strategy for MS Amlin’s +$2bn GWP Reinsurance business. He was instrumental in the establishment of MS Amlin’s strategic partnership programme which was established to build long term strategic partnerships with a variety of third-party capital partners according their risk appetites and return expectations. Gilbert began his career as a property catastrophe underwriter at Amlin. He holds a BSci in Geographical Sciences from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom and an MBA from INSEAD, France & Singapore. Gilbert holds ACII, CPCU and ARe designations.
Burkhard joined Lloyd’s on 1st April 2019 as Chief Financial Officer following 14 years at Allianz Group.
Since 2012 he has been the Chief Financial Officer of Allianz Deutschland AG, Germany’s largest insurer with over €34bn in premiums. Prior to this, Burkhard was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the global finance function of Allianz.
During his time as CFO of Allianz Deutschland AG, Burkhard successfully implemented the internal models for Solvency II, introduced a value generation growth strategy and initiated several large transformation programmes. As the CFO of Allianz Germany, Burkhard has also been responsible for the firm’s €300bn investment portfolio.
Cate is responsible for business development with prospects in the UK & Ireland. Before joining Securis in June 2019, Cate worked at Spinnaker Capital from 2015-2019 as Head of Business Development and a non-voting member of the Investment Committees. Prior to that she worked at Brevan Howard Asset Management initiating and maintaining institutional relationships in the United Kingdom, Asia (ex-Japan), Australia and the Middle East. From 2007-2009, she worked at Gottex Fund Management initiating and maintaining institutional relationships in the United Kingdom and France. Cate began her career in 2006 at ZAN Partners where she was responsible for the global fundraising effort for the ZAN Alpha Fund. She holds a BA in Economics and French from Columbia University.
Philipp Kusche joined TigerRisk Partners in April 2016 as Partner and Global Head of Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS) and Capital Solutions. He has been a leading figure in the ILS sector for well over 15 years.
Tiger is a leading advisor on ILS structures, specifically having played a lead role in many of the sidecar structures developed over recent years.
Prior to joining Tiger, Philipp spent 14 years at Swiss Re, where he most recently was the Head of their ILS Structuring and Origination team in New York, responsible for and instrumental in creating and executing billions of dollars’ worth of CAT bonds, sidecars, contingent capital structures, and other alternative capital products for clients globally.
He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Bauhaus University in Germany and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute in Zurich (ETH). His Master’s Thesis, supported by Credit Suisse, was on public-private partnerships and their potential in Switzerland.
Dirk Lohmann started his career with Hannover Re in 1980. In 1997 he assumed responsibility for the reinsurance activities of Zurich Financial Services. In 2001 Mr. Lohmann managed the spin-off of ZFS’ assumed reinsurance business into Converium where he served as CEO until 2005. Dirk founded Secquaero in 2007 which today acts as the exclusive advisor to Schroders Group on ILS investments with assets currently in around $3bn. Schroders holds a 50.1% shareholding in Secquaero Advisors Ltd.
Dirk has a long track record in developing insurance linked capital markets instruments. This includes Kover Ltd., first transfer of catastrophe risk to the capital markets through insurance linked notes in 1994, the portfolio linked K-2 Swap (1996), Trinom (2001) and Helix (2004) and two award winning life securitisations SQ ReVita I Ltd (2011) and SQ ReVita II Ltd (2015).
Mr. Lohmann also serves as a non-executive director of Schroder Investment Management (Switzerland) AG and Talanx AG.
He has a BA from the University of Michigan, an MBA from the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto and an Executive MBA from the University of St. Gallen.
Richard Lowther has been involved in the re/insurance convergence and ILS market for over 20 years. Most recently Richard was the Managing Principal of Hiscox Insurance Linked Strategies, which he helped form in early 2014. In 2008 Richard helped found AlphaCat Managers, the Validus/ AIG ILS fund manager. Having launched two reinsurer-owned ILS platforms across various parts of the cycle, Richard brings a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities of ILS hybrid model. Recently he has left Hiscox to embark on his next ILS start-up adventure.
Jean-Louis Monnier is Head of Retro & ILS Structuring within the recently formed Alternative Capital Partners group at Swiss Re.
Swiss Re's ILS Structuring team is a leading innovator and arranger of ILS with insurance, public and corporate sponsors. The Retro Structuring team is a pillar of Swiss Re's nat cat strategy, supporting growth via the issuance of sidecars and cat bonds to the capital markets as well as the purchase of traditional retrocession covers.
Jean-Louis joined Swiss Re Capital Markets in 2002, developing asset and liability management solutions for Life insurance companies before specialising on the structuring and placement of insurance risks into the capital markets. Prior to joining Swiss Re, he worked in the derivatives solutions groups of Gen Re Securities, CIBC World Markets and Société Générale. He is a graduate from ESSEC business school in France.
Anthony Rettino serves as Founding Partner and Senior Portfolio Manager for Elementum Advisors, LLC and also serves as Director and CEO of Elementum (Bermuda) Ltd. Tony has managed a variety of reinsurance and risk-linked investment strategies since 1997. Prior to Elementum, he co-managed the reinsurance and risk-linked investments team at Stark Investments from September 2005 through November 2009. Tony earned a BBA in Accountancy with high honors from the University of Notre Dame, an MBA in Finance and Statistics with honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive status). Paul Schultz serves as CEO of Aon Securities, responsible for providing investment banking products and services to Aon’s clients on a global basis. Paul specializes in providing clients with strategic advice and access to capital markets.
Paul began his career in banking in 1986 and spent 14 years at JP Morgan (its predecessor banks), specializing in the Insurance Practice from 1989. Since joining Aon in 2000, Paul has advised Aon plc on issuing the first ever securitization of private equity limited partnerships and advised clients on M&A, starting new companies, issuing senior and subordinated debt, issuing equity and raising alternative capital via the issuance of catastrophe bonds, sidecars and other collateralized structures and derivatives thereof.
Paul earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University. Paul also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Kellogg School of Management. Additionally, Paul is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
James Turner is an Investment Manager within the Private Markets team at RPMI Railpen, one of the UK’s largest and longest established pension funds with assets of circa £30 billion. He focuses on originating, structuring and executing investments within both private markets and insurance-linked strategies.
Before joining Railpen in 2019, James was an Investment Consultant at Willis Towers Watson in the Investments Manager Research team, focusing on hedge funds and insurance-linked strategies.
James is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and has a BSc MMORSE (Hons) from the University of Warwick.
Michael Wade has been a leading proponent of Insurance Linked Securities in the UK and was instrumental in achieving the Legislation to facilitate the 2017 Risk Transformation Regulations.
Michael founded Holman Wade Insurance Brokers in 1980 which became a part of Horace Clarkson plc; and Corporate Lloyd’s Membership ( CLM Insurance Fund plc ) in 1993. He served on the Rowland Taskforce and on the Council of Lloyd’s
In 2000 Michael founded the Rostrum Group which specialised in pension fund investment into Lloyd’s vehicles; and Optex Group in 2006 for Industry Loss Warranties. He was Executive Chairman of Besso Insurance Brokers between 2010 and 2012 before taking up the role of Crown Representative for Insurance at the Cabinet Office in 2013.
Since 2015 Michael has developed a portfolio which currently includes Senior Advisor to the Cabinet Office, Senior Advisor to Swiss Re, Non-Executive Director at Neon Underwriting and Non-Executive Chairman of TigerRisk Capital Markets & Advisory. He was made an OBE in 2018 for Services to the UK Economy.
